Natalie Wood Investigation: What the People Involved Are Saying

NY - After a long search, Time Warner has chosen Laura Lang, who has been CEO of digital advertising powerhouse Digitas, as the new CEO of its Time Inc. magazine unit, the entertainment conglomerate said on Wednesday. Lang, who has led Publicis-owned Digitas since 2008 after joining the firm in 1999, is expected to continue an aggressive digital push by the unit, which is the largest U.S. magazine publisher. Her hire comes after Time Warner CEO Jeffrey Bewkes early this year fired Jack Griffin who had caused a culture clash as leader of the magazine division, according to company sources. "Although Jack is an extremely accomplished executive, I concluded that his leadership style and approach did not mesh with Time Inc. and Time Warner," Bewkes said back then in a memo that was unusually candid for the media industry. Lang will assume leadership of Time Inc. from an interim management committee composed of Howard Averill, Maurice Edelson and John Huey, which guided the company over the last 10 months. Her bio on Digitas' Web site highlights that she has driven international growth and helped the company attract new clients. "Laura's leadership experience, brand management expertise, understanding of digital and marketing and strong relationships with the creative and advertising communities are a great fit for Time Inc.," said Bewkes. "She is the right person to lead the company as it aggressively evolves its businesses during a time of great change and opportunity in publishing." Said Lang: "I am thrilled to be joining the best journalists and publishing executives in the world at Time Inc. during such an exciting time for media and publishing. Time Inc's premier brands and stellar reputation, along with Time Warner's commitment to lead the digital transformation of all its businesses, will lead to great opportunities to deepen our connections with consumers." HAMMOND: War Equine Campaign Begins Can Steven Spielberg Win Another Oscar?

The equine no longer has sufficient the bag. Steven Spielberg’s much-anticipated epic War Equine began its industry tests in serious this mid-day, Thanksgiving Day,in NY and La by inviting people (via trade adsand websiteMonday)of all guilds , experts groups, and, clearly, the Academy to special holiday weekend tests that will continue through Sunday in urban centers additionally to San Francisco Bay Area (Involves an finish-Sun). Furthermore , as formerly introduced , you will notice public sneaks in New you are able to city and nine other urban centers on Sunday afteroon (10:30AM in LA at AMC Century City) a Q&A with Spielbergin NYthat will besatellited for the other urban centers additionally to streamed survive MSN.com. This is an innovative “one-stop shopping”tactic for Dreamworks (and Disney who distributes) since Spielberg is about the brand new england presently shooting Lincoln subsequently subsequently and not designed for the normal round of campaign activities. Its “World Premiere” will occur December 4th at Avery Fisher Hall in New you are able to city. The big launch is on noweven though thefilm was completed for individuals intents and reasons in September. Within the Labor Day weekendTelluride FilmFestival producer Kathleen Kennedy described they basically had the D.I. to complete in individuals days, but even though it absolutely was readythe film, which opens on December 25, has skipped the festival circuit meant for a unique circuitous road to release. That incorporated the unusual way of employing surprise “pop up” tests November 1-10 in small metropolitan areas like Bellvue Wa, Leawood and Olathe Ks, Cleveland Levels Oh, Beaverton Or, Bethesda MD and Plymouth Meeting, PA showing a “heartland” technique to have the ability to get individual to individual moving. That same week Dreamworks started quietly showingthe filmto selectmedia (including Deadline)round the large screenat the Disney lot’s primary theatre.A strict embargo existed until today rightafter the firstThanksgivingscreening when most media and industry typeswould havehad at leastthe opportunity to start to see it. So expect plenty of industry and mediatwittering, facebooking and reviewsto start rapidly with still a great month to go to before its Christmas day wide opening. What Spielberg has wrought can be a stunning searching and highly emotional epic that's Hollywood moviemaking at its best, andseems likelyto bethe filmmaker’smostAcademy- friendlywork since his Oscar individuals who win, Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan. Can it be old-fashioned? You wager , in this fast-moving techno culture that possibly a welcome factor. Spielberg is known as a great admirer of David Lean using its sweeping vistas, deliberate pacing and epic story of just one equine’s amazing journey using the front lines from the First World War, the film could almost be described as a tribute for the great director of those classics as Lawrence of Arabia as well as the Bridge round the River Kwai. Just for the craft alone Oscar nominations seems being assured for top Picture and Director, John Williams’ score, Ron Carter’s production design,Michael Kahn’s editing, the appear work and Janusz Kaminski’sstriking cinematography. However, there hasn’t been much buzz in regards to the cast including Jeremy Irvine, David Thewlis, Emily Watson, Benedict Cumberbatch and PeterMullan, they don’t strike any false notes delivering fine performances, and Tom Hiddleston’s Captain Nichols might even merit some Best Supporting Actortalk though that category is almost impossibly tough this year. For that horses there has to be some form of separate AcademyAward. They are suprisingly significant (one of these simple came from from Seabiscuit). Thefilm , in aspect and execution is certainly the most effective of their genre since Carroll Ballard’s The Black Stallion in 1979, amovie thatearned numerous Oscar nods but shamefully didn’t even get yourself a Cinematography nomination for Caleb Deschanel’s landmark cinematography. War Equine is probably too emotional and traditional to earn much love round the hardcore unsentimentalcritics honours circuit, however imagine it'll fare perfectly within the CCMA’s, Golden Globes, and Oscars, even though a couple of from the Academy’s more recent Best Picture options, notablyNo Country For Old Males, Slumdog Uniform andThe Hurt Locker among othersindicate another sensibility in comparison to kind of once-traditional “bigger”, more craft-laden film the Academyonce preferred, anda categoryinto which War Equine certainly falls. Despite The Fact That King’s Speech triumph last yearover the higher trendy experts choice of The Social Media might indicate there's still room in a lower cost edgy, more “traditional”films in the center of the Academy voter. We’ll have to wait to find out, nevertheless the sheer scope of War Equine certainly makes a unique niche against smaller sized preferred Best Pic hopefuls (seen up to now)like the Descendants, The Artist, Evening amount of time in Paris and Moneyball. However voters might think Spielberg has received enough accolades (3 Oscars, a Thalberg award, AFI Existence Achievement and Kennedy Center Honors), plus he’s got another film, the animated The Adventures of Tintin opening just four days earlier than War Equine. Will that particular-two punch within the boxoffice inspire admiration – or Spielburn-out? Just 72 hrs before Tintin’s release this very prolific film and tv producer and director also hits the milestone ages of 65, but thereis no symbol of retirement soon. He's six Best Director nominationsfor Close Encounters in the Third Kind (1977), Raiders in the Lost Ark (1981), E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Schindler’s List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998) , winning for your latter two. His latest pointing nodcame for 2005′s Munich. Schindler’s List might be the only real Spielberg film to win Best Picture. He's twelve nominations overall between Picture and pointing nods. Strangely enough both his pointing wins came for movies set throughout World War Ii. Can a The Very First World War flick bring him the directorial triple crown handful of, even David Lean, have handled in Oscar history? Certainly War Equine has got the pedigree. It absolutely was a high selling book first launched in 1982, then increased being an worldwide theatrical hit winning five Tonys including Best Play taken due to its smash Broadway run that's still ongoing at Lincoln subsequently subsequently Center. Once I saw the play in May I wondered how any filmmaker could replicate the miracle in the production which is amazing usage of full-sized equine puppetry in the amazing Handspring Puppet Company. But as Kennedy described in Telluride, “War Equine might be the topic of the truly amazing Masters Thesis in showing tips to get a magazine, a play together with a film and supply them each their particular originality, whilst they came from from the identical source material”. It is also unique to get three different authors. Michael Morpurgo written it,Nick Stafford composed the play and Lee Hall and Richard Curtis did the script. Spielberg’s challenge wound up being to making the story cinematically compelling without discoloration the memory in the book or play. Once the Academy feels he been effective , War Equine could end up being the first project to win both a Best Play Tony and greatest Picture Oscar inside the same year from the opening.
